The 16 questions people ask before starting an AI influencer, each in one paragraph. Every answer links a full guide with the platform pages we read and when we read them. Rules change; check the guide’s date. Not legal or tax advice.
Yes. No major platform bans an AI influencer account. What they ban is deceiving people: pretending a real person is behind the face, copying someone's likeness, faking engagement, or leaving realistic AI unlabelled.
Read the full guideYes, and there are two separate things to disclose: that the influencer is AI, and that a post is paid. The FTC, the EU AI Act, the UK ASA and the big platforms each ask for one or both.
Read the full guideMostly not as a character. Instagram and TikTok verify real people, registered businesses and entities, and paid Meta Verified checks a government ID against your legal name. YouTube needs 100,000 subscribers. On X the blue check is a Premium subscription, not ID verification.
Read the full guideOnly with a real person behind it, talking in real time. TikTok LIVE needs a host aged 18+ and 1,000 followers, Instagram Live a public account with 1,000 followers, YouTube a verified channel (50 subscribers on mobile). TikTok Shop LIVEs ban AI voices and pre-recorded audio.
Read the full guideNot as a member profile: LinkedIn's User Agreement says one account, in your real name, and no profile for anyone other than yourself. An AI character can appear in posts from your business Page or your own profile, if you say it is AI.
Read the full guideNone to start: affiliate links, your own product and direct deals have no platform minimum. Platform payouts do: 500 followers for Instagram Gifts, 1,000 for Meta's Creator Marketplace, 10,000 for Instagram Subscriptions and TikTok's Creator Rewards.
Read the full guideYes. What YouTube refuses to pay for is mass-produced, templated or repetitive content, and AI personas giving health, legal or money advice.
Read the full guideYes, if a real adult runs the account and the videos are your own. Creator Rewards needs 10,000 followers, 100,000 views in 30 days and videos of at least a minute. TikTok requires a label on realistic AI content and doesn't pay for reposted or lightly edited clips.
Read the full guideYes, from a Facebook Page, not a personal profile. A Page can earn through Content Monetization (still invite-only), Stars from 500 followers and Subscriptions from 10,000, if the content is your own and labelled where Meta requires it.
Read the full guideYes, but not through Creator Revenue Sharing: X closed it on 7 September 2026. Original Content Rewards needs Premium, 500 verified followers and 500,000 verified Home Timeline impressions in 90 days, and excludes content created or posted using automated means.
Read the full guideYes, but only with the right audience, the right category and honest disclosure that the influencer is AI and the post is paid.
Read the full guideYes, once it earns. An AI character can't be taxed, so the income is yours: ad money, brand deals, affiliate links and free products in exchange for posts. The guide covers the IRS, HMRC, the CRA and the ATO. Not tax advice.
Read the full guideYou can design one for free: the character, the name, the bio and the plan. Posting every week is where money comes in, mostly for video.
Read the full guideYes, through each platform's official posting API only. Instagram allows 100 API posts a day on a professional account, TikTok keeps posts private until the app passes an audit, and YouTube uploads cap at 100 a day per project.
Read the full guideYes for ordinary posts, with limits; mostly no for anything that promotes a product. Instagram's licensed library is for personal, non-commercial use, TikTok tells business posts to use its Commercial Music Library, and on YouTube a song in a Short is claimed and shrinks the Shorts revenue pool.
Read the full guideSelling the login to an Instagram or TikTok account breaks their terms. YouTube's terms have no such line, and a channel on a Brand Account can take new owners. What you can sell is the character, the content and your work running it.
