Short answer: yes, Patreon is one of the few places that pays a character account directly. It is a membership site: fans pay you monthly or buy a post, and Patreon takes a cut. Its AI policy is clear on four points:
AI-generated people are allowed on pages marked Safe for All Audiences, "as long as they do not contain nudity, sexual activity, or related adult/18+ material".
Be honest about what the page is. Patreon bans "misrepresenting themselves, impersonating others" and manipulated media used "for the purposes of deception, fraud, or harassment".
The fee for new pages is 10% of what you earn, plus payment processing (2.9% + $0.30 on a US card).
A real person gets paid. If you earn money, Patreon may ask the person behind the page to verify their identity. The verified name isn't shown on the profile.
Yes, on both. Neither bans AI-made content, but both ban passing it off as something it isn't, AI adult material and AI that copies a real person. Ko-fi takes 0% on one-off tips (5% on the rest), Buy Me a Coffee takes 5%, and payment processing comes on top. Here is each rule, read on their own pages.

What Patreon's AI policy allows
Patreon sorts every page into Safe for All Audiences or Adult/18+, and the AI rules differ between the two.
On an all-audience page, which is where an AI influencer for fashion, travel, food, fitness or a small business belongs, AI-generated people are allowed. The only conditions are no nudity or adult material, and the usual Community Guidelines.
On an 18+ page, the rule is much stricter, and it rules out most "AI model" side hustles you may have seen sold online:
Illustrated or animated AI figures are allowed (anime, comic, painterly styles).
Hyperrealistic AI people are allowed only if they are real adults who have documented their consent. A photoreal character who doesn't exist can't give consent, so it can't be on an 18+ page.
Patreon defines hyperrealistic by "detailed texture (e.g. skin pores, wrinkles, individual eyelashes, lifelike shadows)", natural lighting and movement, human anatomy and 3D composition. A realistic AI influencer meets every one of those.
Also banned: AI girlfriend or boyfriend chatbots that generate content for users, sites that mainly give access to adult AI generators, and step-by-step guides to making hyperrealistic adult AI works.
So the honest route for a realistic character is an all-audience page.
The authenticity rules that matter for a character
Patreon's "Inauthentic Behavior" section is the one to read before you open a page:
Say it is AI. The ban on "misrepresenting themselves" means the page shouldn't pass the character off as a real person taking members' money. Put "AI character" in the page name or about section, and say who makes it.
No fake people from real life. The manipulated-media rules ban AI that shows "a person, event, or scene in a way that is not real or did not occur" when used to deceive, and AI use of "a public figure's image, likeness, or voice" for fake endorsements. Satire and parody are allowed when they are clearly that.
Don't impersonate. Fan pages and parodies are allowed only "if transparently disclosed on the page".
Don't train on other creators. Using other Patreon creators' work to train an AI system is banned.
Put the disclosure where members read it: the about section, the post captions and a line in each tier. Our AI disclosure checker writes the caption line for each platform. In the EU, Article 50 of the AI Act adds its own duty for deepfakes from 2 August 2026.
Members pay for what isn't public: early posts, the story behind a scene, a vote on the next one.
What it costs: Patreon's fees in 2026
Patreon is free to start; you pay only when you earn. For any page published after 4 August 2025:
Platform fee: 10% of membership and one-time purchase income. Older pages keep their legacy plan (5%, 8% or 11%) as long as they stay published without a break.
Payment processing on payments over the local minimum: 2.9% + $0.30 on a card, Apple Pay or US PayPal; 3.9% + $0.30 on PayPal outside the US; 3.4% + £0.35 in GBP, 3.4% + €0.35 in EUR, 3.2% + CA$0.35 in CAD and 3% + A$0.30 in AUD.
Currency conversion: 2.5% when a member pays in a different currency from your payout currency.
iOS app purchases: one-time purchases made in Patreon's iPhone app go through Apple, which takes 30%. By default Patreon raises the in-app price by about 43% so you earn the same; you can choose to absorb the fee instead.
Payout fees and taxes come on top.
A worked example. One $5 tier, 100 members paying by US card: Patreon keeps $0.50 per member, processing is about $0.45, so you get about $4.05 a member, roughly $405 a month, before payout fees and tax. Our guide to tax on AI influencer income covers what happens next.
News from 1 November 2026: Patreon's deadline to move off the old "per-creation" and "first-of-the-month" billing has passed. Accounts still on them are being switched to subscription billing automatically; per-creation billing is paused until the creator sets new monthly tier prices.
Getting paid: identity verification
The character can't open a bank account, so the person running it gets paid. Patreon is rolling out account identity verification to creators who earn:
Patreon emails you when it's your turn. From that moment payouts are locked until you verify.
It collects your legal name, date of birth and an ID number (such as a US Social Security number) through its partner Persona, and may ask for a photo of yourself, a government photo ID, or business documents.
You have 60 days. After that the account is suspended, and 30 days later it is scheduled for deletion, with eligible funds refunded.
"Your verified name is used for internal compliance only and won't be displayed on your profile." The character's name stays the public face.
Ten percent to Patreon, about 3% to processing, and the rest is yours before tax.
What to offer members
Patreon pays when people already care, so it works as the second step, after Instagram, TikTok or YouTube have built an audience. For a character account, things members actually pay for:
Early and extra posts. The full photo set behind a reel, a day before it goes public.
A say in the story. Polls on where the character goes next or what they wear. Patreon has polls built in.
Behind the scenes. How a scene was planned, the frames that didn't make it and why. Honest about the AI, which is the point.
Digital products. Wallpapers, presets or a guide, sold as one-time purchases on the same fees.
One tier to start. A single $3 to $5 tier is easier to fill than five.

Influgen gives every AI influencer a small team: a head writer for the ideas, a creative director and stylist for each scene, a critic who rejects frames before they post. Every post is made fresh for your character and labelled as AI, and you approve it before it goes out. Start here, or try the free tools first.
Mostly not from Snapchat itself. Snapchat's revenue share needs 50,000 followers, 15,000 hours of view time in 28 days and a Snap Star badge, and Snap Star and Brand Partnerships both ask for an account that "represents a real person". AI-made content can earn if it's labelled, but a character account doesn't fit those programs as written. Here is each rule, read on Snapchat's own pages, and what an AI account can do instead.
Yes. Instagram lets an AI character run a professional account and earn from Gifts on reels (500 followers), Meta's Creator Marketplace (1,000) and Subscriptions (10,000), if the person behind it is 18+ and the content passes Instagram's monetization rules. Those rules rule out slideshows of still images, text montages and reposted clips. Here is each rule, read on Instagram's own pages.
